Session on Classical and Modern Physics:

Physics is the study of the structures, functions, properties, and interactions of matter and energy. Classical physics denotes the concepts developed prior to the 20th century and is applicable to everyday practice. The time and space are considered absolute and independent in classical physics and are treated separately. The modern engineering and technology such as predicting weather to launching a rocket are applied by the use of classical physics. Modern physics refers to the concepts that are developed in the early 20th century. The quantum physics and relativity are developed from the concepts of modern physics. Modern physics concepts embody the study of tiny (atoms or subatomic) particles or lightning fast speeds. The application of technologies such as atomic energy, nuclear energy or semiconductors makes use of the concepts of modern physics.

Session on Theoretical and Experimental physics:

Theoretical physics involves the use mathematical formulas and equations to create models that govern the interactions of matter and energy. The understanding of nature of the universe is the major focus of theoretical physicists. Theoretical physicists may require the latest technologies such as supercomputers or the mathematical tools such as calculus and trigonometry for computation and modeling.

Experimental physics involves testing the ideas about how the interactions between matter and energy take place at the atomic level and develop technologies to aid in different fields such as medicine and nuclear energy. Experimental physicists explore the atomic structure, light properties, superconductors and nuclear energy. Experimental physicists use powerful tools such as the particle accelerators, lasers, and radiation monitors. Both types of physicists collect and analyze data to draw conclusions about the interactions of matter and energy.

Session on Classical mechanics:

Classical mechanics, the first branch to be discovered in Physics and it was considered to be the foundation for all other branches of Physics in which they are built. Classical mechanics deals with how an object moves when it is subjected to various forces, and also with the forces that act on an object which is not moving. The classical theory was first enunciated by Sir Isaac Newton in accordance with the general principles in his work Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica.  It is often referred to as Newtonian mechanics. Classical mechanics describes the motion of infinitesimally small objects (point masses) and of large objects that rotate but cannot change shape (rigid bodies). Classical mechanics have many important applications in other areas of science, such as Astronomy, Chemistry, Geology, and Engineering.

Session on Thermodynamics:

The branch of physics that deals with the energy and work of a system is described as Thermodynamics. Thermodynamics in particular, deals with how the thermal energy is converted from and to other forms of energy and how it affects matter. The laws of thermodynamics postulate that energy can be neither created nor destroyed but can be exchanged between physical systems as heat or work. The thermodynamic study mainly considers the system and the surrounding in which the energy is being converted. The thermodynamic study consists of very large numbers of interacting atoms or molecules in the systems and when these systems meet the right criteria, equilibrium is attained which can be described in small numbers. Thermodynamic interactions between large ensembles of objects are studied and categorized.

Session on Acoustics:

Sound is produced by the sudden change in the average pressure or density of air molecules above and below the atmospheric pressure. Acoustics is the branch of physics that deals with the study of sound waves such as mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids. Acoustics primarily deals with the production, transmission, reception, and effects of sound. The vibrations produced from the sound source causes a disturbance to the surrounding air molecules, causing them to bounce off each other with a force relative to the disturbance. When the vibrating molecules are pushed closer together it is known as compression and when they are pulled apart it is known as rarefaction. These back and forth collision of pressure produce sound waves. The applications of acoustic technology include music and the study of geology, atmosphere, and underwater phenomena.

Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics is the study that deals with the interactions between light and matter. AMO physicists try to understand and control atoms, molecules, and light in new ways that were hardly possible. Atomic physics deals with the study of atoms as an isolated system of electrons and an atomic nucleus whereas molecular physics deals with the study of the physical properties of molecules. Optical physics deals with the study of the properties and generation of light (electromagnetic radiation, and the interaction of the radiations with matter. The applications of AMO is very crucial in the technologies of emission, absorption, scattering of electromagnetic radiation from excited atoms and molecules, analysis of spectroscopy, generation of lasers, fiber optics, communication and optical data processing.

Session on Electromagnetism:

The branch of Physics that deals with the electromagnetic forces occurring between electrically charged particles is known as Electromagnetism. Electromagnetic force exhibits electromagnetic fields such as magnetic fields, and electric fields and it is one of the four fundamental forces. The electromagnetic force is the basic force that binds electrons to the nucleus and responsible for complete structure of nucleus. The electromagnetic forces are responsible for practically all phenomena that happen in daily life above the nuclear scale, with the exception of gravity. The electromagnetic forces explain that particles carry momentum by their movement. Electromagnetic force is widely used in electronic devices and household appliances such as MRI scans, television, radio, grinder, fan, computers, and storage devices.

Session on Nuclear Physics:

Nuclear physics is the study of the protons and neutrons at the center of an atom and the interactions that hold them together in a space. The nuclear reactions include radioactive decay, nuclear fission and fusion, and the break-up of a nucleus, the merging of nuclei. The nuclear scientists strive to harvest energy from atomic nuclei and this energy is used for purposes such as fuel, medicine and electricity.  The discoveries in nuclear physics have applications in many fields and this includes nuclear power, nuclear weapons, nuclear medicine and MRI scans, industrial and agricultural isotopes, and radiocarbon dating in geology and archaeology.

Session on Quantum Mechanics:

Quantum theory explains the nature and behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic level. It is also referred to as quantum physics and quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics is the theoretical basis of modern physics and it differs from classical physics. The quantum theory explains the, i) energy, momentum and other quantities of a system may be restricted to discrete values, ii) objects have characteristics of both particles and waves, and iii) uncertainty principle. Quantum mechanics is also important for understanding the individual atoms and their interactions by covalent bond to form molecules. Quantum mechanics is considered to be the only theory that can disclose the individual behaviors of the subatomic particles that make up all forms of matter (electrons, protons, neutrons, and photons).

Session on Relativistic Physics:

The branch of physics that deals with the motion of bodies whose relative velocities approach the speed of light or whose kinetic energies are comparable with the product of their masses and the square of the velocity of light is referred to as Relativistic Physics. Relativistic Physics provides a non-quantum mechanical description of a system. The system may be of particles, or a fluid, in cases where the velocities of moving objects are comparable to the speed of light. Relativistic mechanics implies the mechanics compatible with special relativity and general relativity. The merging of special relativity with quantum mechanics is relativistic quantum mechanics, and for that of general relativity is quantum gravity.

Condensed Matter Physics is the study of matter arising from a large number of interacting electrons and atoms. It involves the study of physical properties of the matter as a result of these interactions. The important area of Condensed Matter Physics are the solid, liquid and, phase equilibria, amorphous systems and phase transitions, electric, magnetic, and thermal properties. Condensed matter physics is a branch of material science that engage with the physical properties of condensed phase of matter, where particles stick to each other. Generally, they include the laws of quantum mechanics and electromagnetism. It is closely related to atomic physics and biophysics. Research in condensed matter physics includes the development of the semiconductor transistor, laser technology, and several phenomena studied in the context of nanotechnology.

High energy physics is the branch of physics that deals the nature of the particles that constitute matter and energy. High energy physics also known as Particle physics deals with the irreducibly smallest detectable particles and the fundamental interactions necessary to explain their behavior. High energy physicists work on developing a theoretical framework or models and mathematical tools to understand the current experiments in the particles. A major breakthrough in theoretical particle physics is the String theory. String theorists strive to combine the mechanics of quantum mechanics and general relativity by building a theory based on small strings.

The study of charged particles and fluids interacting with constant electric and magnetic fields is called as Plasma Physics. Plasma is a state of matter that resembles an ionized gas whereas some partially ionized plasma also exists. The interior core of the sun and stars are the common examples of Plasma whereas neon lights and lightning are examples of partially ionized plasma. Plasma physics is a discipline that has many different areas of application which includes space, astrophysics, controlled fusion, and particle accelerator and beam storage.

Material Science is an interdisciplinary field which involves the discovery and designing of materials. Material science incorporates the application of physics, chemistry and engineering to understand the behavior of materials. The innovations and inventions from the stone tools in the prehistoric era to silicon chips and silicon solar cells in our modern era are from the understanding of material science. The material scientists work with various materials and chemicals for the betterment of human life. They also conduct experiments on different materials in different conditions to determine the effect on that material.
